Another Pan by Daniel and Dina Nayeri

Warning: May contain spoilers for the book!

In this pulse-quickening sequel to ANOTHER FAUST, an ancient Egyptian spell is turning the tony Marlowe School into a sinister underworld. Will all hell break loose?

Sixteen-year-old Wendy Darling and her insecure freshman brother, John, are hitting the books at the Marlowe School. But one tome consumes their attention: THE BOOK OF GATES, a coveted Egyptian artifact that their professor father believes has magical powers. Soon Wendy and John discover that the legend is real—when they recite from its pages and descend into a snaking realm beneath the Manhattan school. As the hallways darken, and dead moths cake the floor, a charismatic new R.A. named Peter reveals that their actions have unleashed a terrible consequence: the underworld and all its evil is now seeping into Marlowe. Daniel Nayeri and Dina Nayeri return to reimagine Peter Pan as a twisty, atmospheric, and fast-paced fantasy about the perils of immortality."

After reading Another Faust when it came out, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a sequel, Another Pan. Though it took me a while to figure out which Pan they were referring to, I was excited to read the book once I figured out that they were talking about Peter Pan.

At the end of the last book, I was left wondering what, exactly, had happened to the remaining Faust children and Vileroy, and this book answered one of these questions. After her seeming destruction at the end of the last book, the evil governess retreated into the depths of Marlowe, waiting to strike again. This time we get to see deeper into her past, and deeper into what exactly made her that way. Though I enjoyed that, it definitely wasn't may favorite part of the book. My favorite part of the book was definitely John.

From the beginning I found John to be very easy to relate to. his story is one heard way too often these days: an extremely smart kids, willing to give it all up and pretend to be dumb in order to get friends and become popular. His decision to attend Marlowe was one I understood well, him wanting to make contacts to succeed, as well as being smart, though he hides it. His wannabe-gangster actions, as well as the trying too hard to fit in, made me love him so much, and downright laugh out loud while I was reading. Also, his frustration at now being taken seriously as a kid is something I know many people will relate to.

Overall, the strong cast of characters and interesting, Egyptian mythology inspired plot made this a great read, and it comes very reccommended!

   Happy Reading,
